Frequently asked questions about YouTube channel search
Should I search using the channel handle or display name?
Search by display name or keywords. Handles such as @CookingWithEmma
are not indexed by the YouTube Search API. Enter the channel’s public name (e.g. Cooking With Emma
) or niche keywords like lo-fi study music
for the best match.
How long should my query be?
Keep it between 5 – 50 characters. The tool ignores anything longer, so trim extra words, punctuation, and spaces for a cleaner match.
Does spelling matter when I search?
Yes. Spell the name exactly as it appears on YouTube. Correct spelling and proper spacing dramatically improve relevance.
What does the sort option do?
Use the dropdown to reorder results:
- Relevance shows the closest textual matches, ideal for unique names.
- View Count prioritizes the largest channels in your topic.
How many results can the tool return?
The tool currently returns up to 50 results per search (recently extended from 25). For the most relevant matches, keep your query focused on a specific topic or channel name.
How can I refine the results?
Add a distinctive term such as content focus or language (tutorials
, ES
, ASMR
) to filter look-alike channels.
What information is included in the CSV download?
- Title: The public name of the channel
- Channel Link: Direct link to the channel’s YouTube page
- Description: The channel’s public description
- Subscriber Count: Number of subscribers
- View Count: Total views across all videos
- Video Count: Number of uploaded videos
- Hidden Subscribers: Indicates if the channel hides its subscriber count (Yes/No)
- Published Date: Channel creation date (YYYY-MM-DD)
- Country: Country associated with the channel (if available)
You can open this file in Excel or Google Sheets to sort, filter, or further analyze the channel data.
Why do I see garbled text when I open a CSV file in Excel?
Excel may default to the wrong character encoding. To display all international characters correctly, try: Data â–¸ Get External Data â–¸ From Text/CSV, then choose UTF-8 as the file origin/encoding before importing.
