Can I use any popular music as my TikTok ad soundtrack?
Not exactly. TikTok has implemented a change that limits access to music and soundtracks that commercial brands can use in their videos and ads.
As reported by Business Insider, the “verified businesses or organizations” can not any longer choose from a vast pool of popular music available to non-commercial TikTok users. The brands access is now limited to royalty free music from TikTok’s commercial music library.
If the music in that library does not fit either your brand or the creative direction of your video, you will have to provide your own soundtrack.
Note that the soundtrack must be properly licensed for commercial use to avoid your video removed from TikTok for copyright infringement.

How to choose best music for TikTok ad
1. Keep it short. Most big brands ads I’ve seen had soundtracks under 15 sec, often shorter. Please note that TikTok often mutes music videos that are longer than 60 sec. Read more about how to avoid and fix music copyright issues on TikTok.
2. Match the genre / mood of the soundtrack to both your product and intended audience. In other words, classical music may not be the best fit for your fitness app commercial.
3. Match music to the length of the video as closely as possible. While you can easily cut a short snippet from a longer song, an nice audio clip with a natural intro / outro would work much better.
