Finding the proper sounds that you can use legally may be challenging if you’re just starting in the biz and looking to make your very first voice demo.

What background music should I use in my voice acting demo?
If you’re looking for get as much business as possible as a voice actor, make a versatile demo that spans multiple types of typical voice over gigs.
If you’re aiming at a specific industry, for example, voice acting for video games or animation, pick the music that fits that specific type of content.

Let’s look at some typical types of voice over demos and see what music works best:
1. Commercial jingles voice over demo
There are many different types of promotional jingles, from upbeat lifestyle ads to energetic car commercials, and political advertisement.
Each type may need a different type of music.
Ultimately, the choice of background music for a commercial jingle’s voiceover depends on various factors, including the tone of the advertisement, the target audience, and the overall message the advertiser want to convey.
Some recommended types of background music include upbeat pop, happy acoustic indie pop, driving energetic music, and cinematic music scores for dramatic ads.
Consider solemn or patriotic music for political ads.
Typically, the length of background music for commercials and jingles is between 15 sec and 1 min.

2. Teasers and trailers voice over demo
Recording trailers voice overs can be both lucrative and fun!
Background music for teasers and trailers serves to enhance the mood, build anticipation, and create a strong emotional impact.
Some typical genres include epic cinematic music and hybrid orchestra trailer music.
PRO TIP:
When selecting background music for teasers and trailers, it’s important to strike a balance between complementing the voice over and visuals and enhancing the emotional impact.
The music should amplify the message and intrigue the audience without overpowering your voice.
3. Narration voice over demo
Background music for narration voice over demos should enhance the narrative, create an appropriate atmosphere, and support the message being conveyed.
Some background music genres that I’d recommend for narration demos include soft instrumental music, like soft piano, ambient moods music, and ambience sound effects.
But please don’t feel constrained by the above!
If you’re making a demo for an adventure audio book, by all means use adventure music.
PRO TIP:
Remember that the primary focus of narration voice overs is the information being conveyed.
The background music should enhance the overall experience by setting the tone, evoking emotions (if and when needed), and engaging the audience.
